The Frugal Traveller’s Little Black Book

An escape from reality—that is just one benefit we get from traveling, but while this is true, many are blinded by the perception that traveling equates to great expenditures. Well, basically, you would really have to shell out an amount if you wish to travel, but this does not mean that you have to break a bank just to get the most out of your trip. There are many ways you can travel, minus the extravagance, and believe it or not, once you find and master your own budgeting scheme, you would really fully believe that the best things in life are free—well, ALMOST.

Travel Locally

When I was a child, my biggest dream was to travel the whole world and witness its wonders first hand. However, when I was growing up, I realized that there is so much to see in my own country—tourists spots that are far more beautiful than the ones I’ve seen abroad. And since we are talking about cutting your expenses, you’d definitely agree that traveling locally is a lot cheaper than flying to and from other parts of the world. This means that if you have never practised patriotism before, now is your chance. Traveling within your country will not only help you save more money, but it will surely let you see and appreciate the wonders of your own nation. Not only that, you’d be able to get to know the other sub-groups in your country and the different delicacies you never knew existed.

Plan Ahead

One basic rule: Travel off-peak. Now, if you think you can’t really afford to miss out on all that beach-loving fun during summer, it is best that you book your tickets as early as possible. Through this, you’d be able to avail discounts not only on your plane tickets, but on your accommodation as well.

However, there may be disadvantages when you book these tickets and it is highly recommended that before you avail any promo, you’d study all the details carefully. On the other hand, if you are fairly good at maps, you may opt not to avail these promos and just research ahead of the time for the prices of the possible transportation you could use and the cheapest accommodation you could get. Many of my friends do this, and luckily for them, they are able to save more from doing so.

Travel Light

Yes, I know you have heard this advice a million times before, and it may sound like a cliché, but traveling light will not only save your muscles from stress, but you’d also be saved from fees due to excess baggage. Traveling with one hand carry is enough, and remember to bring only what is necessary.

Punk Out!

When traveling, you do not really need to dine out on all the top-class restaurants just to say that you were able to enjoy your trip to the fullest. Eating at less expensive restaurants and savouring those streetfoods would definitely save you more than a few bucks.
